Magdalena Saldaña es Directora Alterna del Núcleo MEPOP, investigadora asociada del Instituto Milenio Fundamentos de los Datos, y profesora asistente de la Facultad de Comunicaciones de la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.
Sus líneas de investigación se relacionan con el periodismo digital, las redes sociales, la comunicación política y los estudios latinoamericanos. Su trabajo investigativo se ha publicado en prestigiosas revistas académicas, tales como Digital Journalism, New Media & Society, International Journal of Press/Politics, Journalism and Mass Communication Quarterly, y Social Media + Society, recibiendo premio sde la Asociación para la Educación del Periodismo y la Comunicación de Masas (AEJMC), el Simposio Internacional de Periodismo Digital (#ISOJ), y la Asociación Regional de Investigación en Opinión Pública de Estados Unidos(MAPOR).También ha recibido diversos reconocimientos por sus logros académicos y docentes, incluyendo Becas Chile y Becas Fulbright.
Magdalena es periodista (Universidad de Concepción), Magíster en Investigación Social y Desarrollo (Universidad de Concepción), y Doctora en Periodismo y Comunicación de Masas (Universidad de Texas en Austin, Estados Unidos).
