Giancarlo Visconti es profesor asistente en el Departamento de Política y Gobierno de la Universidad de Maryland. Es Doctor en Ciencia Política por la Universidad de Columbia y Cientista político por la Universidad Católica de Chile.
Sus áreas de estudio son el comportamiento político comparado y la economía política del desarrollo, con un enfoque regional en América Latina. Sus principales intereses de investigación incluyen el crimen, la ideología y las actitudes políticas.
Su investigación ha sido publicada en el Journal of Politics, British Journal of Political Science, Comparative Politics, Political Science Research and Methods, Public Opinion Quarterly, Political Behavior, Electoral Studies y Latin American Politics and Society, entre otras revistas.
